Founder

Lucas Campbell Saint Laurent

Founder, President and Secretary

“I am a Christ follower. I’m a world traveler. I am a thinker and I’m a builder.”

Where I come from

I was born in Brazil in 1994 and raised there until I was nine. We moved to Stockholm because my stepfather is Swedish, and his work then took the family to Bangladesh, to Hanoi and to Melbourne. I went to boarding school in the United States and went home to wherever the family was on school breaks.

“I got to see a lot of poverty and a lot of suffering through my younger life. Especially living in Brazil as a young child, seeing the injustice of poverty. And then going to Sweden, and then contrasting that with Bangladesh, where I saw so many people starving to death. It was an eye-opening situation into the reality of the human condition from a young age.”

What I do

After school I taught English for three months in Nantong, China. I studied applied mathematics at Johns Hopkins, and I am studying international business at Florida International University. I founded ExoWorlds, an independent game studio, where I led a sixteen-person international team and released a playable Unreal Engine title on the Epic Games Store in 2024.

“I like to build things, whether it’s in code or websites or, you know, creative pursuits, 3D printing and things like that.”

Why Jacksonville

I moved to Jacksonville about six years ago. Asked which place changed me most, out of every country I have lived in, I answer without hesitating:

“Jacksonville, because it’s where I found Christ and where my life changed completely.”

Why Redeemer Forge

Redeemer Forge brings that work under one accountable roof: the Scriptures free to every reader, mentorship for the young people of this city, and congregations caring for their own.

“Nobody’s paying me now, and I try and use my skills to help the brothers and sisters at my congregation, and to build open source tools that can help people. These are things that I love to do, and I don’t need to get paid to do it.”

Governance

    Interest declared

Every director and officer discloses any interest, and signs a statement each year.

  2. 2

    Leaves the room

A director with an interest in a decision takes no part in it.

Conflict statements

Directors serve without pay, for two-year terms staggered so the whole board never changes at once.

  • A board, not members

The corporation has no voting members. Its board of directors governs it and answers for it.

  • Conflicts declared in writing

Every director and officer signs a conflict-of-interest statement each year. A director with an interest in a decision leaves the room for it.

  • Pay decided by others

Pay to any director, officer or founder may be approved only by directors with no conflict, after comparing what at least three similar organizations pay, with the decision recorded in the minutes.

  • A permanent record

Minutes are kept of every meeting and every written decision, approved at the next meeting and kept permanently.

  • No politics

The corporation takes no part in any political campaign for or against any candidate.

Stewardship

How money is handled.

The same rules apply to every dollar, from the first.

Every dollar is recorded in the giver’s own words, spent only as given, and reported every quarter.

  4. 4

    Spent

Only on what it was given for. Two signatures over $1,000; the board’s approval over $2,500.
